"Kevin Durant had a Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant-type of performance": Lakers legend Magic Johnson compares the Brooklyn Nets star to the GOATs following a historic second round playoff performance

Former Lakers legend Magic Johnson, compared Kevin Durant to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, following his legendary second round playoffs performance.

Ever since the Brooklyn Nets added former MVP James Harden to their roster, the Nets became the immediate favourites to win the 2021 NBA title. Behind the Durant, Irving and Harden trio, the Brooklyn have one of the most offensively stacked team in league history.

Despite this, the Brooklyn Nets suffered a huge upset in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, against Giannis Antetokounmpo and his Milwaukee Bucks. Of course, the Nets were riddled with tons of injuries, because of Kevin Durant, the Nets managed to produce one of the best series in the playoffs by far. The 6-foot-10 Slim Reaper practically carried his team, while putting on one of the most legendary playoffs performance.

KD averaged a whopping 34.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists this postseason. Calling his playoffs performance great would be an understatement. Probably, Magic Johnson had the best way to summarise Durantula’s performances- by comparing him to the likes of the GOATs Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.

“I think Kevin Durant is the best scorer on this planet”: Magic Johnson

On an appearance on ESPN’s “Get Up”, Magic Johnson had some huge props for the 2014 MVP. Earvin said:

“That (Kevin Durant) showed me a Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan-type of performance. It reminded me of Michael Jordan against the Celtics, when he (MJ) got 60 and they lost. That same type of performance, and everybody said ‘uh oh. It’s getting to be Michael Jordan’s league.'”

“So I think that Kevin Durant put himself in that type of atmosphere, with those type of players – Micheal Jordan, Kobe Bryant and we’re gonna be blessed because we get to see more of this. Who else has come back from Achilles and performed like Kevin Durant.”

“I think LeBron got one more year to be the man and it’s Kevin Durant’s league right after that… I think Kevin Durant is the best scorer on this planet, in the world, I think that now they (LeBron and Kevin) are running neck and neck. LeBron knows he’s got to come back and have a great year and his Lakers got to have a great year. But let’s see what happens next season.”

It’s truly marvellous to see KD still dominating the league despite suffering horrific Achilles injures back in 2019. Even though he must’ve exited the playoffs this year, teams in the league have definitely taken note of what Easy Money Sniper is still capable of doing. Without any doubt, Durant along with Irving, Harden and the remaining Nets team, will come back next year with a vengeance.
