"LeBron James, Steph Curry, And KD Play For Boston Now?": $304 Million Contract Man Jaylen Brown Getting Disrespected With '5th Best' Player Comps Has Kevin Garnett Heated

Despite being surrounded by NBA trade rumors for the past couple of seasons, Jaylen Brown recently signed a five-year, $304 million supermax contract with the Boston Celtics. This will give him an average salary of $60.8 million per year, making him the highest-paid player in the NBA. But many have felt apprehensive about how much the Celtics star deserves his contract. Some have even been downright against it. However, it was the opinions of NBA’s front office executives that got downright disrespectful about the situation, something Kevin Garnett couldn’t help but retaliate to.

Brown’s contract comes with a rather interesting clause in it. He is the founder of the ‘7uice Foundation’, an organization that helps youth of color fill in the gaps in their lives that have been created due to racial hurdles. It looks to create opportunities that will ‘change their lives’. And to help that, on the 1st of July of every year of this contract, the player will receive $7,777,777 to support his foundation.

Kevin Garnett jumps to Jaylen Brown’s defense after Front Office executives call him ‘the 5th best player on the Celtics’

When a player starts to get what he deserves and gets high up because of it, there will always be people who want to tear him down immediately. As it turns out, those kinds of individuals exist in NBA front offices as well. Here is a tweet by NBA Central to explain what is going on.

“Some front office members around the league believe Jaylen Brown is the ‘3rd or 4th or 5th’ best player on the Celtics “I’ve had a couple people in opposing front offices tell me something along the lines of ‘Are the Celtics really gonna pay their 3rd or 4th or 5th best player all this money?’”

Admittedly, the comment is shocking, especially coming from someone who works in the NBA. There have been times when Jaylen Brown was inarguably the best player on the Celtics’ roster. He is an excellent #2 option, the kind that could feasibly be the #1 choice on most other teams in the league. Understanding this fact, Kevin Garnett recently tweeted out in response to the statement by the nameless Front office executive.

“Huh? (LeBron James), (Kevin Durant), and (Stephen Curry) play for Boston now? Tf”

There is definitely some exaggeration at play here. However, it’s hard to disagree with Garnett’s statement. Brown is one of the very best players in the league at the moment. Even if his contract is a little inflated, it’s time those in positions of power acknowledged it.

What’s next for the Celtics?

While Jaylen Brown has a reason to celebrate, the Celtics may be weeping at the moment.

Jayson Tatum is up for a similar contract extension. And given that he is the first option on this Celtics’ side, it is likely that he will only demand more money. While the salary cap is expected to increase ahead of the 2024-2025 season, it likely won’t be enough to justify such massive salaries.

At the moment, the roster has a fair bit of depth to it. However, at this rate, that could be changing sooner than most fans expect.
