"Luka Doncic is better than 21-year-old LeBron James": Mavs star surpasses Michael Jordan in career triple-double during loss to Bulls on Sunday

Mavs franchise star Luka Doncic surpassed Michael Jordan in career triple-doubles despite playing barely 1/7th of the GOAT’s career thus far.

Doncic compiled the 29th triple-double of his fledgling, young career despite the Mavs’ blowout loss to the Bulls Sunday night. Doncic conjured yet another monster performance. His statline of 36 points, 16 rebounds and 15 assists makes him the youngest player to achieve the marks.

Doncic has been tipped to win the league’s MVP award – he’s the odds-on Vegas preseason favorite for it. Currently, LeBron James leads the nba.com leaderboard due to the team success he’s had. But as the season progresses and teams see how much the Mavs rely on Doncic, the trend may change.

We’re hard-pressed to find 21-year-olds in NBA history who were more impressive than Luka is, today. LeBron James led the Cavs to the Finals at 22 and Kevin Durant won the scoring title at 21. But neither of them showcased Luka’s vision or skill levels by this age.

Luka Doncic goes up to 15th ahead of Michael Jordan in all-time triple-double list

Luka’s 35-15-15 stat line was only the eighth time that feat has been accomplished in NBA history. He joins Oscar Robertson, Wilt Chamberlain, and James Harden in accomplishing the rare achievement. Robertson has pulled it off five times in his career.

Luka broke Magic Johnson’s record for most triple-doubles before the age of 21, accumulating 21 of them. Besides Jordan, he has already passed the likes of Kobe Bryant, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Elgin Baylor on the all-time triple-double list. He’s currently tied with Grant Hill at 15th place with 29.

The Mavs are currently right at .500 with a 6-6 record. They’ve only just gotten Kristaps Porzingis back from a knee injury suffered in the bubble. Expect Luka Doncic and his team to make more noise this year.
