After 13 years of ownership, Michael Jordan recently decided to sell the Charlotte Hornets franchise. Having purchased the team for a $275 million valuation in 2010, Jordan and other minority investors made a hefty $2.7 billion profit, selling the team for a whopping $3 billion. Even though he is soon to be the ex-owner of the North Carolina side, Jordan was reported to have the final say on their #2 pick in the NBA Draft. Charlotte selected Brandon Miller, who is set to earn $9,065,600 in his rookie year, as per Real GM. However, what was supposed to be possibly the happiest day of his career, was somewhat tarnished by Malika Andrews’ ‘unnecessary’ comments, leaving fans upset at the veteran reporter.

As expected, Victor Wembanyama was picked by the San Antonio Spurs as their #1 pick. After several reports suggested that the Hornets franchise were in a dilemma with their #2 pick, they went ahead to select Miller ahead of the widely favored Scoot Henderson. While Wemby will sign a four-year $44 million rookie contract as the first pick, Miller will be reportedly receiving $9.06 million in his first year.
NBA Twitter is upset with Malika Andrews’ comments on Brandon Miller
Moments before Commissioner Adam Silver called out the Hornets’ pick, Andrews decided to bring up the Alabama Shooting case, which had Brandon Miller’s name involved in it. The ESPN host stated during the network’s Draft night broadcast:
“His[Miller] name did surface in court testimony, involving a case where his former teammate and another man, they’ve been indicted for capital murder in the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Jamea Harris in January. The University of Alabama has described Miller as a cooperating witness. How is this factoring, if at all, into how teams are evaluating him?”
In a clip posted by @TheFlightMike on Twitter, the user went on to imply that Andrews’ comments were unnecessary. Seemingly taken aback, the user said in his live stream, “I don’t think it would be brought up at all if it wasn’t for Malika just bringing it up on national television right now.”

Just like the streamer, there were several users on Twitter who failed to understand why the 28-year-old would bring up the sensitive topic, months later.
Not Malika Andrews bringing up the criminal case of 2 men, two men who ARE NOT, Brandon Miller.
She’s playing the game of “name association”, hoping that whenever ppl hear the names of the 2 men on trial, they’ll associate, Miller, with them.

Some users even claimed that Andrews went out of her way to spoil the “biggest day” of the youngster’s life.

@espn really needs to make her go on leave and make sure she takes classes if their choice bc she has been on a roll of negativity and over pushing things that aren't there https://t.co/UBkABZIDAm

However, this isn’t the first time the ESPN host has been subjected to hate for her comments.
Other instances when Andrews incurred the wrath of social media
The comment on Miller was truly uncalled for. However, this isn’t the only time Andrews has received flak for her comments. Early in the 2022-2023 season, social media would blast Malika after she accused Stephen A Smith and Kendrick Perkins of siding with Ime Udoka during the Celtics coach’s suspension controversy.
Merely a few weeks after the incident, the Golden State Warriors fanbase would attack the ESPN personality for selecting Giannis Antetkounmpo and Kevin Durant over Stephen Curry. This was followed by Twitteratis dubbing her “unprofessional” when she laughed at one of Kendrick Perkins’ takes calling out Ben Simmons.
