“Stephen Curry Getting Injured Could Be a Good Thing”: Charles Barkley Expects GSW’s Youngsters to Level Up in 6ft 3” Guard’s Absence
The Golden State Warriors are going through a rough patch. Despite being the defending champions, the Dubs are currently amongst the bottom feeders of the West. With Stephen Curry now injured, Steve Kerr and his squad are facing even more pressure.
From here, they can go either way. They can find their groove again and make it to the playoffs or maintain the same rhythm and risk not even making it to the postseason. But future prospects aside, it seems GSW’s reigns are currently in the hands of their youngsters.
Without the 6ft 3″ sharp shooter, they will look to be more impactful in the games. Now, every shot and every attempt will matter without their best finisher on the court to save them. And Charles Barkley believes this could be a good thing.
Charles Barkley considers injury to Stephen Curry could bring positive change to GSW
We all know how outspoken Charles Barkley is and how hard he can go after the Warriors and their fans. However, on a recent episode of NBA on TNT, Barkley made some legitimate points.
The ringless former Sixers star claimed that Steph’s injury might in fact be a good thing for the Warriors. Barkley, who is a Hall of Famer and a certified NBA legend, is not wrong with his claim.
Barkley essentially revealed that as a star, Stephen Curry was doing the major lifting. Chuck also highlighted how, with no specified timeline for Curry’s return, most of the pressure that Stephen Curry shouldered has been transferred to the other members of the squad.
Barkley: “This could be a good thing. Sometimes we have a star, he has to do too much lifting. Now, everybody got to raise their level. All them young guys I am talking about – Jordan Poole, Moody, Wiseman, Kuminga. They gotta pick it up.”
Youngsters like Moses Moody, Donte DiVincenzo, Jonathan Kuminga, and James Wiseman have now been forced to come out of their protective shells.
The only youngster who has actually proven to be a legitimate threat and game-winner is Jordan Poole. But now, the players who have only admired Steph’s genius from the shadows must step into the limelight.
Steph will remain inactive for at least a month
In his last appearance, Chef dropped 38 points against the Indiana Pacers before leaving the court due to a shoulder injury. The injury, upon further diagnosis, has proven to be a big blow for Curry and the Dubs.
As per CBS Sports, Steph is expected to miss at least a month of action. For a star who was averaging 30 points and 5 made threes per game, this is heartbreaking. Hopefully, he can return with the same tenacity once he heals completely.
