New Twitter data reveals that Chris Paul and the Phoenix Suns are the most rooted for team to win the NBA Finals this postseason.
Twitter data based on geotagged tweets always reveals some of the most intriguing information. Last year, after LeBron James had won his 4th ring, Twitter maps showed that James and Jordan were nearly tied across the US in terms of the ‘GOAT’ debate. Recently, it was revealed that the Brooklyn Nets and the Lakers were numbers 1 and 2, respectively, as the most hated teams in the United States.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, we have now learned that the Phoenix Suns have the most fans in terms of who the United States, as a majority, wants winning the championship this season. Virtually the entirety of middle America and the MidWest is rooting for Chris Paul and the Suns to snag their first ever championship.
A whopping 17 states want to see the Phoenix Suns win the chip while the Bucks, Sixers, and the Jazz pose a 3-way tie with eight states each rooting for them, across the US.
Why are the Phoenix Suns number 1 in terms of being rooted for?
This Suns roster, unlike many rosters that contend for championships these days, was built from the ground, up. A multitude of stars on the team who are now considered to be essential towards this championship run can be classified as home-grown talent. Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, Cam Johnson; these are all players that were drafted by James Jones and the Suns.
When it comes to free agency, the Phoenix Suns didn’t go out of their way to assemble the Avengers and whatnot, like the Brooklyn Nets or the LA Lakers. They made smart moves for reliable role players such as Jae Crowder and Cameron Payne signings and topped it off with a Chris Paul trade.
Other than the fact this is far from a superteam of sorts, the roster is filled to the brim with lovable guys. As seen from the locker room video that surfaced after the Suns the Nuggets, they all seem to love being around one another.
It also makes sense that the Phoenix Suns are the title ‘darlings’ considering the fact that quite nearly every single fan (Memphis Grizzlies fans) wants to see Chris Paul win his first ever championship.
