Over the last year, Victor Wembanyama has taken the basketball world by storm. Pretty much an internet sensation by now, the 7-feet-4 Frenchman is hailed as one of the greatest NBA prospects ever. At just age 19, Wemby is already being talked about by celebrities like Drake and was also invited recently to throw the first pitch at Yankee Stadium. Having won the LNB Pro A league MVP, the youngster is expected to dominate the NBA as soon as he steps on the floor. While several pundits have tried predicting the trajectory of the phenom’s career, an FS1 analyst sincerely believes that he could potentially put an end to the LeBron James-Michael Jordan GOAT debate.

While there is still no clarity as to whether Scoot Henderson or Brandon Miller will get drafted 2^nd, Victor has been a lock at #1. The San Antonio Spurs are expected to draft the generational talent. Looking at the golden opportunity of being mentored by coach Gregg Popovich, NBA analyst Chris Broussard is of the opinion that the teenager’s ceiling is him being the GOAT of the game.

On the latest episode of First Things First, the panel discussed what Wemby’s floor and ceiling in the NBA looks like. According to Broussard, the big man’s floor could be an all-time bust, like that of Greg Oden.

“The floor, is like Greg Oden. He’s injured and is not able to play. That would not be the floor.” Comparisons with Zion Williamson also came to the fore while discussing Wemby’s floor.

However, the 54-year-old analyst didn’t believe that there’s any need to worry about Wembanyama being a bust. He displayed immense faith in the youngster, while weighing in on his ceiling. Implying that the unicorn star could potentially put an end to the Michael Jordan-LeBron James GOAT debate in the future, the Fox Sports analyst claimed that Wemby had no ceiling and could go down as the greatest player in NBA history.

Breaking down different aspects of the center’s game, Broussard explained how the Spurs organization is a great fit for him. Finally, the analyst concluded his argument by stating that the 7-foot-4 anomaly is better than what international superstars, like Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Nikola Jokic, were at his age. Broussard said on the FS1 show:

“The ceiling, there is none. Ceiling is GOAT. I mean seriously! I mean that’s the ceiling, is it possible? Yes… He’s 7’5”, he can handle the basketball, he shoots it okay… he can defend. He’s 19-years-old, was the MVP of the French league and I know that might not be the top-level European league. But he’s still playing against grown men and dominated offensively, led the league in scoring and defensively.

He’s going to a great organization where he’s got a great coach, they know how to handle not only stars but international stars… I’m not saying that I think he’s going to be the GOAT. I’m just saying that’s the ceiling. He’s better than Luka, Giannis, and Jokic were at this stage, and look at how great they became.”

Wemby is truly a physical freak. At 7-foot-4, he can dribble, shoot, pass, rebound, and defend as effectively. While it is too early to make any comments regarding the GOAT debate, Wemby can surely be a superstar in no time.

Wemby doesn’t feel the pressure of being compared to LeBron James

For the past few months, analysts and enthusiasts have been dubbing Wemby as the greatest prospect since LeBron James.

While it seems like putting too much pressure on a 19-year-old kid to be comparing him to the best basketball player of the generation, Wemby doesn’t look bothered at all. Instead, his latest appearance on JJ Redick’s podcast suggested that the French sensation was as calm and ready as one could get. It’ll be interesting to see whether or not Victor Wembanyama can meet all the surreal expectations in the NBA.
