"Andy Dalton last I checked is still Andy Dalton": Nick Wright Says Justin Fields Should Be Chicago Bears Starter

The Bears previously claimed that Andy Dalton would be “QB1”. But, after drafting Justin Fields, it could be anyone’s game.

Both Andy Dalton and Justin Fields are competing in the OTA’s (organized team activities) for the starting quarterback role. However, Nick Wright claims it isn’t even a competition.

“There’s no competition”: Justin Fields will be the immediate starter, says Nick Wright

Nick Wright, a radio talk show host claims that the competition is fixed and Andy Dalton will not start for the Bears.

Wright believes that Fields will be the prime quarterback for the Chicago Bears.  Dalton is “not gonna start week 1 for anybody anymore,” said Wright, absolutely slamming the 33-year-old Quarterback by underlining how he isn’t a starting-caliber player anymore.

However, the Bears may start Dalton in week 1 against the Rams. Former Bears QB and all-time franchise leader in passing yards and TDs, Jay Cutler, recently said he thinks Dalton’s experience beats Fields’s potential.

In 2020, Dalton played 11 games for the Dallas Cowboys. He threw for 2170 yards and 14 touchdowns. However, the problem came with his 8 interceptions and completion percentage of 64.9%.

Will Andy Dalton help the Bears?

If Fields does end up starting, Dalton will be a solid backup either way. More importantly, Dalton’s experience should definitely help Fields, similar to how Alex Smith guided Patrick Mahomes for example

Dalton being a veteran is extremely vital. For instance, if in a crucial position, the Bears might lean towards him because of his experience.
