Following in Patrick Mahomes’ Footsteps, $255 Million QB Jalen Hurts Shows His Batting Prowess for Favorite MLB Team

“Watch and learn from Patrick Mahomes. Do what he does,” is probably what almost every QB coach would be telling their young prospects. Surely there are veteran QBs in the NFL too who just watch him and try to emulate his incredible playstyle on the gridiron. However, Eagles’ $255 million signal-caller Jalen Hurts may be adapting a rather different aspect of Mahomes’ gameplay: his baseball skills.

Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown stopped by at the Citizen’s Bank Park to take some swings in the batter’s box, ahead of DeVonta Smith’s celebrity Softball game. While Brown was a top MLB prospect back in the day, it was Hurts who shined throughout last year’s game. He will be looking to do the same this year as well, and maybe make bigger headlines than the one his rival, Patrick Mahomes, made at the Big Slick game.

Hurts impresses Teyana Taylor with his batting skills

Jalen Hurts, who has quickly risen as one of the finest young QBs in the competition, recently showcased his enviable batting skills while practicing alongside Philadelphia Phillies’ players, ahead of their matchup against Detroit Tigers. Impressed by Jalen’s ability to park the ball deep, renowned rapper Teyana Taylor, with whom Hurts recently featured in a cinematic commercial, shared an “Eagles QB turned Philly batter” appreciation reel on her Instagram stories. “Yeaaaa, I see you got that heat on ya feetzzz,” Teyana captioned the reel, which was then re-shared by Hurts himself.

Coming to Mahomes’ Big Slick celebrity softball game, it brought together a ton of well-known celebrities for a charitable cause. Even though the game was meant to be a fun encounter, there was no shortage of competitiveness. Especially from Patrick Mahomes, who went above and beyond to make sure his team, the Royals, lifted the trophy.

Fans were treated to a variety of exceptional plays from Mahomes during the charity game. The 2x Super Bowl winner hit a home run during his spell in the batter’s box. He managed to chase down a runner for an out, even though the runner had his teammates block Mahomes like O-Linemen. In all, his athletic prowess was on full display at the game.

Mahomes did have a rather neat trick up his sleeve: the fact that he was a top baseball prospect himself. His father was an MLB star, and Mahomes played a lot of baseball back in the day. He was even drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 2014 but did not sign with them, and rather chose to focus on college football. That ended up being a great decision not just for him, but for all Chiefs fans.

Jalen Hurts will be hoping to outdo Mahomes on the gridiron this season

Hurts and Mahomes are not very different, yet not very similar either. Both are prolific, successful signal callers, who also are the highest-paid QBs in the league. Their playstyle, though, is very different, yet similar. Both are dual-threat QBs and have a knack for gathering rushing yards. However, there is one thing Mahomes has that Hurts does not: the magic of baseball and basketball experience.

Last season, fans witnessed how Mahomes was able to use all of his experience from different sports and use them on the gridiron. Whether it be an alley-oop pass for a touchdown or a long pass with an awkward arm angle, Mahomes’ performance on the field was nothing less than magical. Not to forget, his ability to get out of the pocket no matter what the defense throws at him.

Jalen Hurts may not have a lot of experience in other sports to draw inspiration from. however, he is no less impactful on the field. Last Season’s Super Bowl was a testament to how closely matched the Eagles and the Chiefs, and by extension Hurts and Mahomes, were. This time, Hurts will undoubtedly be trying to push himself and his team more, so that they can hopefully lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy this year.
