“Sam Darnold knows how to get the best out of everyone around him”: Christian McCaffrey has high praise for new QB Sam Darnold
Sam Darnold was traded to the Carolina Panthers in April after three years as a Jet. And even though Darnold had a rough 2020 season, star RB Christian McCaffrey says that Darnold has great poise.
Sam Darnold was drafted 3rd overall by the Jets in the 2018 draft and was instantly coined the savior for the franchise. However, after only 3 seasons, the Jets decided that it was time to move on from the former USC star. Darnold’s failure in New York could also be because of a dysfunctional organisation led by an inept head coach in Adam Gase.

But New teammate Christian McCaffrey believes Darnold brings a lot of skill to the roster,
Christian McCaffrey had high praise for Sam Darnold
“I think he knows how to get the best out of everyone around him too,” McCaffrey said. “And I think his poise is something that’s important at the quarterback position – he doesn’t get too high or too low – and that’s something we can feed off of.
McCaffrey was then asked how Darnold manages to “get the best out of everyone.” The All-Pro running back said it’s all comes down to Darnold’s communication skills.
“I think he’s really good at talking through things with guys, whether it’s receivers, or running backs in protection stuff, and kind of getting a feel for each guy and what their ability is and what their capabilities are. And with that, adjusting his game, or if he needs me to run a route at a different depth, he’ll let me know and nothing goes unsaid.”

Darnold and the Jets went a horrible 2-14 in the 2020 season, as Darnold ended it with the worst QBR among all eligible QB’s. Darnold threw for 9 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, ending the season with just about 2200 yards in 12 games.
But Darnold will look to come back stronger in 2021, as he looks to be the current starter for the Panthers for next season. He certainly possesses the talent to succeed. Hopefully, we can see Sam Darnold revamp his career at a different team like QB Ryan Tannehill did at Tennessee.
