Is Aaron Rodgers Retiring? Veteran QB’s “Jets or Nothing” Warning Is Making NY Fans Extremely Nervous

Aaron Rodgers

Almost five weeks ago, Aaron Rodgers announced that he desired to play for the New York Jets. The Jets fans were relieved because they finally heard what they were waiting to hear from Aaron Rodgers’ own mouth. Then they waited patiently for the deal to happen. It was reported that both teams were taking an awful lot of time to discuss the compensation details.

Fans grew impatient and needed answers. News came out that the Green Bay Packers were asking for a few third-round picks from this year’s draft class and a second-round pick from the 2024 draft class. New York did not want to agree to such a deal because a) Rodgers is 39 years old; Just like Brady, his age has also been a point of conversation, and b) the Jets probably do not trust the Super Bowl champ’s wayward nature.

The New York-based team probably wouldn’t want to give away their other big prospects because, like every year, the ten-time Pro Bowler will start singing the song of ‘I may or may not be retiring this year.‘ This brings us to 2023.

Is Aaron Rodgers retiring? How will this affect the GB Packers?

The future Hall of Famer wants to play for the Jets. He told his agents that it was either them or no other team. This can be detrimental to Green Bay, which will have to pay him $40 million no matter what he chooses.

If the Packers trade him to NY, they will have to accept whatever the other team is willing to pay them and still give him $40 million. In another scenario, if he retires, his current team will still have to pay him $40 million.

As of now, there have been no updates from the QB’s side. He has not denied nor spoken any further about the matter. As per Mike Florio of the ProFootballTalk, the trade will happen by Week One, unless and until Rodgers changes his plans.

Rumors of Rodgers to the San Francisco 49ers get louder amidst the Jets saga

Weeks ago, WFAN host, Craig Carton, floated the idea of San Francisco becoming a potential landing spot for Rodgers if the negotiations between him and the Jets don’t come to fruition.

If the Niners trade Trey Lance and Brock Purdy isn’t available to play this year, they can pursue trade talks with Rodgers. However, something like that would be difficult given there are only ten days remaining.

As mentioned previously, the Packers are asking for multiple third-round picks in this year’s draft and a first-round pick in next year’s draft from the Jets. This will not be the case with the 49ers because they do not have a first- or second-round pick in this year’s draft. So, it will be interesting to see how this situation plays out, though the chances of it happening are slim as of now.
