Garoppolo’s contract allows him to play through the 2022 NFL season. He still has 2 years left on his contract and is earning an average salary of $27,500,00.
Jimmy Garoppolo’s future
If he does indeed stay with the 49ers, he will have to prove himself in the 2021 NFL season. The 49ers are in arguably the toughest division in the NFL, playing with the Seahawks, Rams and the Cardinals.
If Garoppolo doesn’t meet certain standards, it is possible he can be traded while having 1 year remaining on his contract.
Jimmy Garoppolo trade destinations
If he doesn’t perform well enough in the upcoming season, it is very possible that the 49ers could trade him after the 2021 NFL season. The ideal destination would be the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Ben Rothlisberger is reportedly willing to play the 2021 NFL season as he still has 1 year left on his contract. If this is Rothlisberger’s last year in the NFL, the Steelers might trade for an experienced quarterback such as Goroppolo.
