Purdy, a rookie, was forced to play the majority of the first quarter and all three quarters with Garoppolo out. He completed two touchdown passes to aid the 49ers’ 33-17 victory over the Dolphins. Now it appears that he will start for the rest of this season. Who is Brock Purdy, though?
Who Is Brock Purdy
The backup quarterback for San Francisco is Brock Purdy, who moved up from third string to primary backup following Trey Lance’s season-ending horrific ankle injury on September 18. Garoppolo took over as the starter when Lance was ruled out for the 2022 season, with Purdy immediately behind him in the No. 2 spot. However, the former’s wound compelled the rookie to act.
At Iowa State, Brock Purdy studied for four years. He completed 993 of his 1467 pass attempts for 12,170 yards and 81 touchdowns while playing 48 games in college. He scored a 151.1 on the passing efficiency rating (PER) scale.

Purdy was chosen by the 49ers as Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 NFL Draft for his professional career. Later, he made regular-season history by throwing the first pass of any selection of that kind. He earned the nickname “Mr. Irrelevant” for his draught class, which is given to the player selected last in a Draft pick.
When he entered the game on Oct. 23 and finished 4 of 9 passes (44.4 percent) for 66 yards and an interception in the Chiefs’ 44-23 defeat, he accomplished that feat.
Given everything, Purdy performed brilliantly against the Dolphins. Against the Fins, the 22-year-old completed 25 of 37 passes, throwing two touchdowns and one interception. It’s true that the performance wasn’t flawless. But it was more than enough for the Niners to defeat Miami, giving them a significant victory that keeps them just ahead of the Seahawks in the NFC West standings.
