NFL Super Bowl MVP: Was linebacker Devin White snubbed?

NFL Super Bowl MVP 2021: Tom Brady won another Super Bowl MVP award, and he did play fantastic. But was defensive player Devin White snubbed?

Devin White, the Buccaneers’ linebacker played a crucial role on Defense as they didn’t allow a single touchdown versus the Chiefs’ explosive offense. Should he have won the NFL super bowl MVP award?

Devin White had a dynamic game on defense

White was all over the field, recording a total of 8 tackles. He made crucial tackles limiting the Chiefs’ run game, while also playing solid pass defense.

White also sealed the game with an interception, securing the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl title. Along with his 4 assisted tackles, he limited Patrick Mahomes’ options maintaining tight coverage on receivers.

NFL Super Bowl MVP: who deserved it more, Brady or… the entire  Bucs defense?

Of course Tom Brady had a spectacular game, throwing for 3 touchdowns and 201 yards. But the Buccaneers’ defense was key to this win.

The defense had tight control on the Chiefs’ explosive receivers, especially Tyreek Hill. Hill torched the defense when they played earlier this season with over 200 receiving hards in the first half.

However, in the Super Bowl, Hill was limited to just 73 receiving yards, a majority of them coming in the last few minutes of the game which didn’t matter too much.

Buccaneers’ defensive line were the unsung heroes

The Bucs defensive line created havoc for Patrick Mahomes. on 40 dropbacks, Mahomes was pressured on at least a third of them. Pressure was vital for their Super Bowl win.

Mahomes was sacked 3 times, and was pressured at a constant rate throughout the game. Ndamukong Suh and Shaquil Barett were the 2 most destructive forces.
