P.K. Subban, who played in the NHL as a defenseman, retired from his professional career in 2022. After calling it quits, the veteran joined hands with NFL legend Peyton Manning to kickstart his broadcasting journey. He intends to replicate a show like the ManningCast, specifically dedicated to hockey fans. And for this initiative, Manning’s Omaha Products will help him set the stage. The show has already become a great entity for the Manning bros, as Subban has started off by glorifying the Stanley Cup and schooling the Hall of Famer about its significance over the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Subban played for 13 years in the NHL after being selected 43rd overall in the second round of the 2007 draft. Even though he is deprived of a championship title, the veteran accomplished a lot in his tenure. After seeking retirement, he chose to stay connected to this game, and broadcasting turned out to be the best possible way of doing it.
Peyton Manning gets schooled by P.K. Subban
The two-time Super Bowl champion recently inked a deal with Subban to launch “P.K.’s Places” on ESPN+. In fact, a teaser of P.K’s show was also released before the launch, in which the 33-year-old narrated the significance of the Stanley Cup, calling it the oldest and greatest trophy in the history of the sport. As a result, the first episode of the show ended up becoming a massive hit.
Initially in the teaser, Manning seems to think that Subban is referring to the Lombardi while talking about the greatest trophy ever. However, things get a lot clearer for Peyton when he finally witnesses the massive Stanley Cup with the name of every champion engraved on it.
“Come on Peyton, the Stanley Cup is better in every single way. Every team, lifts the same trophy, every year, and by the way, you get your name engraved on this thing. Look at the size of it, it’s beautiful, it lights up the room. Kinda like you,” P.K then goes on to say in the teaser.
Stanley Cup vs Lombardi Trophy” The legacy war
Vince Lombardi Trophy is given to the NFL champions every year and was first lifted in 1967. The Green Bay Packers were the Super Bowl title holders at that time, and the name of this trophy was given in memory of the Packers’ then-head coach. According to Britannica.com, the Stanley Cup is much older and was first awarded in the 1892–93 season.
It is the oldest trophy that a professional athlete can take home in North America. However, NHL’s viewership has taken a hit in the last few years. With Subban’s latest broadcasting project, NHL’s popularity is expected to soar in the near future.
