NFL Surprise Cuts 2020: 5 most surprising cuts from 2020 deadline weekend

NFL Surprise Cuts 2020: Yesterday, the deadline for the 2020 final roster cuts passed. Here are the 5 most surprising cuts made around the NFL.

Every year, teams are required to reduce their rosters to just 53 players by 4pm E.T. on the Saturday before the season opener. It’s one of the toughest days in the season for fans, coaches, and especially the 1,400 odd players who get cut.

Obviously, when so many players are released at the same time, there tend to be some huge surprises. Keep in mind, coaches didn’t have a preseason to assess their players this year, so the decisions were that much harder to make.

Here are our top 5 surprise cuts for the 2020 season:

1. Adrian Peterson

Team: Washington Football Team

Position: Running Back

One of the big surprises of the offseason came Friday when Washington released RB Adrian Peterson. The 35 year old veteran has been a dominant force at the position for more than a decade. He’s a former MVP, 7 time pro bowler, and 5th on the all-time rushing yards list.

It looked like he would be the starter after the arrest of Derrius Guice, but that clearly won’t be the case. Peterson has since been signed by the Lions to a 1 year deal, marking his return the NFC North.

2. Lamar Miller

Team: New England Patriots

Position: Running Back

Another huge surprise cut at running back. Miller just signed with New England in August and only recently returned to practice after recovering from an ACL injury.

He seemed excited about his return, telling reporters why he chose the Patriots and what makes their organization different from his previous teams.

Miller may have a tough time finding a landing spot now, given that the markets for RBs is crowded and the Lions went with Peterson.

3. Justin Rohrwasser and Nick Folk

Team: New England Patriots

Position: Kicker (both)

Like Miller said, the Patriots do things differently.

Rohrwasser and Folk have been in competition for the spot this offseason and somehow they both managed to lose. The Patriots waived Rohrwasser and released Folk on Saturday.

New England now has zero kickers on their 53 man roster, Injured Reserve, PUP list, and extensive opt-out list just a week before their season opener against the Dolphins

4. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix

Team: Dallas Cowboys

Position: Safety

5. Josh Rosen

Team: Miami Dolphins

Position: Quarterback
