A thrilling game to start off the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League resulted in a narrow 1 wicket victory for the returning Chennai Super Kings. Several stars lit up the show, several were blown away and new stars were born. Let’s have a look at how the players performed in the Super-Indian derby.

Chennai Super Kings

S.Watson – 8

The experienced Aussie had a decent outing at the Wankhede. Watson managed to help the men in yellow dominate the powerplay with his spell which included the wicket of opener Rohit Sharma.

The veteran also removed the settled Suryakumar Yadav to end with the eventual figures of 2-29. However, Watson failed to capitalise on a decent start and holed out to Evin Lewis at deep square leg.

A.Rayudu – 7

In a surprising move, the former Mumbai Indians batsman was chose to open with Watson. Despite starting well by taking on the Mumbai attack, the player fell prey to spin in a tame fashion.

S.Raina – 1

A terrible outing for the leading run scorer in the IPL at the Wankhede, as the flamboyant batsman made an early walk back to the pavilion after being dismissed for just 4.

K.Jadhav- 6

Jadhav  was forced to be taken off as a result of an injury. The player, however, was struggling to get going before the injury after just scoring 14 off 17. But, he turned savior at the end for the franchise by steering his team to the eventual result.

MS.Dhoni – 4

The former Indian captain executed his plans well overall with his field placements and bowling changes to restrict the Mumbai Indians to a total of 165. However, the skipper failed to get his team out of trouble in the eventual chase by scoring just 5 off 5 deliveries.

R.Jadeja -5

The all-rounder had a lackluster outing with both bat and ball. Jadeja was just given a single over, off which 9 runs were conceded. The ex-Gujarat Lions player failed to make amends with the bat after playing a sluggish knock of 12 off 13 balls.

Dwayne Bravo- 10

An absolute perfect performance by the West Indian who is acclaimed as one of the greatest in the shortest format of the game for a reason.

Despite getting smacked in his first over, Bravo game back strong in the death by just conceding 11 runs in his last 3 overs. The player managed to take his game a step up in the chase by single-handedly steering the Chennai Super Kings’ innings.

Harbhajan Singh- 7.5

A positive outing for the experienced off-spinner against his former side. Harbhajan just received 2 overs off which he conceded 14 runs. The player also managed to get a chance to swing his bat a bit with a boundary in the run chase

Deepak Chahar – 8.5

The pacer had a great outing where he managed to exploit the conditions at the Wankhede early on. Chahar’s movement clearly put the openers in serious discomfort which helped the bowler snap up Lewis early on. Chahar, however, was dismissed for a first ball duck in the second innings.

Mark Wood- 3

Despite beginning his very first over in a dominant fashion. The England International looked all over the place for the rest of the game after conceding 49 runs off his 4 allocated overs.

Imran Tahir- 6.5

Tahir had an average outing for his new franchise. The veteran was torn apart by Kishan at the beginning, but managed to come strong by capturing his wicket.
