IPL Auction to be held in Jaipur

IPL Auction to be held in Jaipur: Reports doing the rounds suggest that the IPL auction will be held in Jaipur later this year.

The much-awaited auction of the 12th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is reportedly to be held on December 16 and 17 in Jaipur. The murmurs of the auction to be held for the first time outside of Bengaluru are all but true but the recent development quashes its prospects of it being held in Goa.

A major update of the report published in the Mumbai Mirror is that CA (Cricket Australia) and ECB (English Cricket Board) have informed BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) that their players will not be available for next year’s IPL season beyond May 1.

With the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 set to commence on May 30, such a decision was bound to be taken for cricket boards would be wanting their players to prepare for thr mega 50-over event accordingly.

The fixtures of IPL 12 are yet to be announced. However, with the general elections in India to be slated around the same time, it is expected to be played at a venue outside of India. If reports are to be believed, the next season of the IPL will start from March 29 and will continue till the third week of May.

Sources close to the franchises have continuously asked for the confirmation of the venue where the tournament would be played only it will give them a better idea on how to select players ahead of the IPL auction.

“We wanted the auction to be conducted after the venue is known so that we could have chosen our players accordingly but the BCCI has its own timelines to follow,” said a franchise official, while another said, “We understand that the venue would be known by then.” The venue, needless to stress, will depend on the dates of the general elections.
