Now that January has come, cricket fans all over the world will be eagerly looking forward to the IPL auction, that is set to take place later this month.

The mega IPL auction will take place on the 27th and 28th of this month, with all eight IPL teams will be looking to start afresh, as they look to build their strongest possible squad for the upcoming season.

IPL fans have also circled January 4th on their calendars, as this is the date that all eight teams will announce the list of players that they have retained for the upcoming season.

The retention of players has been a topic of much discussion, as cricket fans all over the world have speculated on the players that may or may not be retained by their favourite clubs.

This year’s event will be telecast live by Star Sports, as the TV broadcasters want to flag off this year’s IPL season with this event.

“The idea is to send out a message that that the IPL is not just about money. A lot of effort is put in team-building and we want to start the IPL coverage through retention. The retained players form the core of the teams,” said a Star official.

Star India is all set to telecast the most-watched cricket league in six regional languages such as English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Bengali.

Sanjay Gupta, who is the managing director at Star India emphasized that IPL is one thing that has by far managed to grab the hearts of the people. “IPL is the biggest property on television today,” he said on Wednesday.

Star India is expecting to create a massive impact in terms of the overall viewership of the IPL. Their intentions are quite clear and the standard target that they set is around 700 million in 2018, a tremendous jump that could see a 250 million rise from 2017.

Looks like the IPL fever is set to kick in much earlier than expected this year!
