Steve Smith beach ball: Watch Australia’s star batsman smack a beach ball to the boundary during the 4th Ashes test match at Manchester.

That Steve Smith is a brilliant batsman is common knowledge. However, should anyone doubt the claim, all they have to do is watch the ongoing Ashes between the two historical rivals to see the Aussie star at his absolute best.

This is the former Ausie Skipper’s first red ball assignment since his return from his year-long ban. However, he hasn’t missed a beat at all. He played the ball all over the park in the first match scoring a pair of centuries.

He then scored a fighting 92 in the second match but could play no more part in that match and the one after courtesy a Jofra Archer bouncer that hit him on the head. It’s no coincidence that the Kangaroos went on to lose the match. Of course, Ben Stoke’s heroics are to be thanked but one can’t ignore the absence of Steve Smith especially considering the fact that he has now scored another 50+ score and looks set for a big one.

This is now his 8th consecutive 50+ score against their arch rivals, bettering his own record of 7. He is on a level of his own and at the moment, there is no one close to him. Not even Virat Kohli who is yet to register a test century this year.

Many have wondered what goes on in Steve Smith’s mind when batting and the star batsman may have shown a demonstration when an unusual object found its way into the field.

With the score at 102-2, a beach ball made its way onto the pitch. Steve Smith calmly swept the ball to the boundary. The English fans at the stadium cheered loudly; possibly the only time they’ll ever cheer for a Steve Smith boundary.

At the moment, Australia are well placed at 170-3. They have scored at a brisk pace and look set for a big one. The match has been delayed on account of rain and the English side will hope to regroup during the break and restrict Australia before the match slips out from them.
