Summer Game Fest 2023 set the stage on fire with some of the biggest game announcements, new trailers, and other exciting reveals scheduled for the year 2023/24. We got a look at brand-new upcoming titles such as Price of Persia, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Sonic Superstars, and many more. Gaming studios, streaming giants, and even tech conglomerates left no stone unturned in surprising the audience with their best products planned for this year’s release.
Besides new trailers, game studios also delighted fans with stunning concept art of the recently announced Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and a brand new gameplay reveal of the franchise reboot title Mortal Kombat 1. However, there’s a lot more to both titles that we’ll talk about later.
SGF 2023 turned out to be pretty overwhelming, as the gaming community got way more than they all expected. The credit also goes to the fan’s beloved Geoff Keighley, who, as usual, did a wonderful job as the event’s host. Now, let’s begin the most exciting part, i.e., every announcement at 2023’s biggest gaming event so far.
Major announcements and reveals at the Summer Game Fest 2023
Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay reveal trailer
What differentiates this reboot from the rest of the franchise’s titles is the new “Kameo system”. It’s an in-game mechanic that enables players to call out other in-game characters for help in the middle of a fight. This stunning 4-minute-long, bone-crushing trailer features all sorts of extreme violence, fatalities, and breathtaking visuals that will give fans goosebumps for sure. It’s so brutal that the trailer itself got age-restricted on YouTube.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 release date announcement
Everyone’s favorite web crawlers, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, are all set to debut on October 20, 2023, exclusively on PlayStation 5. Furthermore, the fans’ excitement went on to a whole new level when Insomniac Games’ creative director, Bryan Intihar, took on the stage, revealing two concept arts featuring the two of the titles antagonists, or we can say Spider-Man’s arc nemesis, ‘Kraven the Hunter’ and ‘Venom’. Further providing insight into Venom, Bryan shared he won’t be Eddie Brock.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown trailer & release date
Ubisoft’s latest installment of the iconic Prince of Persia franchise will debut next year on January 18th across multiple platforms. Get ready to witness POP like never before, as apparently, it’s an action-packed 2D game inspired by the good-old classic title. No doubt, the gameplay trailer seems delightful and already gives an insight into the title’s jaw-dropping visuals, combat mechanics, big boss fights, and many more.
Netflix’s The Witcher Season 3 Trailer
The streaming giant, Netflix, finally revealed the much-awaited official trailer for The Witcher: Season 3, along with the release dates of June 29th (Vol. I) and July 27th (Vol. II). Everyone’s favorite, Henry Cavill, a.k.a. Geralt of Rivia, along with Siri and Yeneffer, is back with tonnes of new adventures and mysteries to solve. Don’t forget to check out the trailer.
Alan Wake 2 gameplay footage
2 weeks back, PlayStation released the Alan Wake 2 gameplay trailer that many of us must be well familiar with. Moreover, at SGF 2023, Remedy’s creative director, Sam Lake revealed a new 3-minute-long gameplay clip featuring Saga Anderson, showcasing an early stage of the upcoming title. For those unwary, this game boasts two different story narratives: one featuring Alan Wake and another with Saga Anderson.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
The brand new gameplay trailer for Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, showcases lots of insights into the upcoming game. Speaking of, there are new explorable areas, boss fights, and new characters, including some familiar faces like Yuffie, Cloud, Aerith, and more. With a tentative release date of early 2024, it will debut on PlayStation 5.
Sonic Superstars announce trailer
The legendary Sonic will be arriving this fall along with all his friends, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose, all being playable characters. In fact, Sonic Superstars features side-scrolling mechanics with 4 players co-op, which means all players can play at the same time. The trailer showcases gameplay that apparently seems inspired by Sonic’s classic look from old titles.
Fortnite Transformers crossover
Epic Games delighted the Fortnite community by announcing the new chapter 4 season 3 featuring the Transformers crossover. This new season is called ‘Fortnite Wilds’. And as the name suggests, the cinematic trainer reveals a massive jungle, dinosaurs, hidden temples, and more, including Optimus Prime. This Autobot will be available in the title as a battle pass skin along with other Cybertron weapons and items.
Dead by Daylight and Nicolas Cage crossover
Yes, you read that right. Hollywood’s legendary actor, Nicolas Cage, is coming to Dead by Daylight on July 25th. The Ghost Rider star himself took the stage at Summer Game Fest 2023 for a chat and mentioned this game as a medium to venture into the gaming industry.
Lies of P
Developed by Round8 Studios and published by Neowiz Games, Lies of P will arrive on September 19th, 2023, across next-gen consoles and PC. Moreover, the title’s demo version is already available for those who want to try out this action role-playing title.
