The Champions League round of 16 draw conducted at the UEFA headquarters housed in Lyon on Monday have thrown our way some intriguing matchups. From Chelsea being drawn up with Atletico Madrid and PSG and Barcelona going at loggerheads, the impending round of matches in the marquee tournament promising to make for enthralling viewing.
The draw which was held in the presence of Giorgio Marchetti, Deputy General Secretary of UEFA and Stephane Chapuisat, a player who shown for Switzerland and Borussia Dortmund began with tributes being crooned for Liverpool’s recently departed manager, Gerard Houllier.
Marchetti said while speaking about Gerard, “He greatly contributed to European football, our thoughts are with his family.”

Given the manner in which PSG and Barcelona’s showdown have unravelled in the competition across the last set of matches the two have played, this contest emerges as the standout encounter from the draw. Also, with Neymar pushing hard for Messi to join him at the French club, the intrigue surrounding the clash is set to make it an intoxicating brew.
