UFC Champion Khabib once refused to take a picture with a Barcelona fan until he said ‘Hala Madrid’

UFC lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov once refused to take a picture with a Barcelona fan until he said ‘Hala Madrid’.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is no stranger to inflicting torture. He does that on the regular with his mat skills while taking on an opponent in the UFC. The lightweight champion, a Real Madrid fan did the same, albeit to a much more hilarious result, to a Barcelona fan when he asked him to say ‘Hala Madrid’ before obliging for a photo with the young boy.

The young fan approached the Russian last summer in June. However, Khabib jokingly turned his request down.

“No, no, no, he is a Barcelona guy, no,” Nurmagomedov said in jest of the young fan when he requested a snap with the UFC’s undefeated 155lb champion, “Not with you brother.”

“I am Real Madrid, brother”, Khabib continued and added “It doesn’t matter, Ronaldo or not” when the youngster inquired if Khabib’s support of the team had waned in the wake of the Portuguese’s move to Juventus.

“If you say Hala Madrid, we are going to take a picture. Let’s go!,” Khabib then declared.

The young fan reluctantly agreed before the Dagestani superstar laughed and posed with the fan.

In the time since, Khabib fought and defeated interim titleholder Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi on September 7 to solidify his status as the sole UFC lightweight champion.

He is set to return to action on April 18 when he defends his UFC lightweight title against Tony Ferguson at UFC 249; that is, if the coronavirus pandemic allows for the event to take place.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
