Brandon Moreno, the Mexican fighter, unified his interim title for the ultimate flyweight gold against Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 283 inside Jeunesse Arena, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil today. The fight served as the co-main event for the first pay-per-view of this year, headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between Glover Teixeira and Jamahal Hill.

It is interesting to note that it is the fourth time the flyweight combatants Moreno and Figueiredo went to war against each other inside the UFC cage. Their first meeting ended in a draw. But in the rematch at UFC 263, ‘The Assassin Baby’ defeated Deus da Guerra’ via submission in the third round to become the new champion.

However, the trilogy saw a different outcome, as Figueiredo just had an edge over the Mexican. He successfully won his flyweight title back via a unanimous decision at UFC 270.

The Brazilian fighter took the center of the octagon right after the first bell and landed a guillotine inside the first minute of the round. However, Moreno was successful in getting out of the choke. The rest of the round was on the foot until the Mexican landed a takedown and finished the round on the mat.

‘Deus da Guerra’ landed a quick takedown at the start of the second round. The rest of the round was a standing contest, but the fighters took it to the mat in the last minutes, with Moreno ending it on the top.

In the third round, Moreno landed a strong left that injured Figueiredo. However, the fight continued on the mat. Unfortunately, the doctor stopped the fight after the third round as the Brazilian wasn’t able to continue. Thus, Moreno successfully became a two-time UFC flyweight champion at UFC 283.

Final results: Brandon Moreno defeats Deiveson Figueiredo via a KO/TKO in the third round.

Although it looked like Moreno had an edge over the Brazilian in the rounds, some people weren’t impressed by the result. It might be because of the last shot landed by Moreno which looked illegal from an angle. But former dual champion Daniel Cormier clearly stated that the shot was legal. Let’s take a look at how fans reacted to the fight.

It is interesting to note that, even the former champion Deiveson Figueiredo did not protest against the result. He gave credit to the winner in the octagon interview with Cormier and announced his move to the bantamweight division. It remains to see what lies ahead of ‘Deus da Guerra’ in the new division.
