Dagestani Native Khabib Nurmagomedov Recalls How Vladimir Putin Once Caught Him off Guard
Russian President Vladimir Putin made a phone call to Khabib Nurmagomedov after his successful title defense against Conor McGregor. During a candid conversation on the Full Send podcast with the Nelk Boys, Khabib shed light on his experience talking with the country’s leader. This meeting held great significance for the champion, as it marked the first time he had the chance to personally connect with the Russian president, despite both hailing from the same nation.
Khabib Nurmagomedov is a native of Dagestan which is a part of Russia. However, his encounter with President Putin was a notable milestone for the accomplished fighter. Currently, he is spending quality time with his family and pursuing various business ventures.
The Rivalry with Conor McGregor was a very bitter one. It took both the fighters to a very dark place. Before the fight a brawl took place where McGregor threw a trolley at the bus in which Nurmagomedov and his team was travelling. This made ‘The Eagle’ very furious and he jumped over the cage after defeating McGregor to beat his teammates.

Surprisingly, while still in the locker room, Nurmagomedov received a call from Putin, catching him off guard. Due to his phone being switched off, they had to contact his father in order to establish a connection between them.
He said, “For me it was like surprise, you know. After the fight he called me. I remember, I was in locker room in Vegas, my phone was off. They contacted with father and they said ‘Hey Putin gonna call you.’“
In the midst of the call, President Putin extended heartfelt congratulations to Khabib for his outstanding performance and the well-deserved victory. Expressing immense pride and joy, he commended Khabib on his remarkable achievements.
