Ex-UFC Star Reacts to Chris Rock’s Joke About Watching “Emancipation” to See Will Smith “Getting Whipped”

After almost a year of the slap controversy, well-known comedian Chris Rock and Hollywood actor Will Smith are once more making headlines. For those who don’t remember, Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife on stage during the Oscars last year, and Smith responded by slapping Rock. Fans and numerous celebrities criticized Smith’s response harshly. Smith’s conduct at the Oscars particularly infuriated the community of stand-up comedians. As a result, despite his apology for his actions, Smith continued to be the subject of hate and social media memes. Meanwhile, the majority of people commended the stand-up comedian for maintaining his composure throughout the ordeal.

However, many people might be irked by Rock’s recent comments regarding the incident. But a former UFC welterweight star Jake Shields doesn’t fall under this bracket. Instead, he lauded the comedian on social media.

What did Jake Shields say about Chris Rock?

Apparently, Chris Rock’s new special is about to release this weekend on Netflix. Therefore, ahead of the Netflix special, the comedian tried out some of his jokes during a show in Baltimore, per reports.

Chris Rock’s new special contains a lot of material regarding the Oscar slap incident. One of the jokes was about Smith’s recent movie character, Emancipation. The 54-year-old played a role of a runaway slave in the movie. 

In context to that, Rock, per reports, said, “The other day, I watched Emancipation just so I could watch him getting whipped.” Although Rock had no intentions behind it, the controversial nature of the statement might have set some people off on him.

However, former UFC welterweight title challenger Jake Shields praised the title challenger. He posted a screenshot from the news and wrote, “Chris Rock goes hard,” in the caption.

Jake Shields’ UFC career and controversies

Jake Shields is a veteran of mixed martial arts with a professional record of 31-9 under his name. Before UFC Shields competed in K1 and Strikeforce. In UFC, he had a long run and also competed for the welterweight title once against Georges St-Pierre.

However, he later departed from the promotion in 2014. He has since taken up the role of a coach. But Shields is also famous for his controversial nature on social media.

Jake Shields has over 500k followers on Twitter and Instagram combined. He never backs down from sharing his thoughts on various topics, even if they are controversial. He takes a dig at the president of America, Joe Biden.
