“For $5,000,000? That’s a Guarantee”: Daniel Cormier Gets Challenged by 5′ 11″ UFC Star for ‘Money Fight’
Over the years, the amount of combat sports promoters and influencers with vast fan followings entering the sport has increased. These influencers not only bring a large audience to their fight but also big paychecks onto the table. Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather set the scene for exhibition fights back in 2017. Since then the likes of Jake Paul, Logan Paul, and KSI have followed suit and elevated the fighter’s payday. Now, a UFC featherweight is interested in an open-weight exhibition fight against Daniel Cormier for $5 million.
It wasn’t surprising that it was Max Holloway who was calling out the UFC Hall of Famer for a multi-million fight. ‘Blessed’ and Cormier have a history of throwing playful jabs towards each other over the years.
Despite playfully taunting each other, the duo have maintained a very admirable friendship and bond between themselves. That’s why the MMA community is so invested every time they speak about each other.
Max Holloway wants to fight Daniel Cormier for $5 million
Max Holloway is promoting his upcoming fight with ‘The Korean Zombie’ on Saturday, 26th August. The Hawaiian appeared on the ‘Flagrant’ podcast with Andrew Schulz a couple of days ago.
During the podcast, the 5’11” revealed that he walks around 160 lbs and is serious that he can bulk up to heavyweight. Thus, despite the difference in their weight class, he doesn’t mind fighting Cormier for a decent payday.
Holloway said, “When I tell you guys, bro that I would fight DC at heavyweight, I’m not joking. If the money is right brother we can fight in an alley… No, No, No, we need money bro, we need money. [For $5 million] Oh that’s a guarantee brother, that’s a guarantee. But that’ll be like lowballing me and him. So, we’ll probably go higher but we in the mills bro. DC I love but like we’re gonna fight each other.“
Holloway has previously spoken about fighting Cormier at heavyweight as well. What’s more, in an interview Holloway threatened Cormier that he would come after his jobs once he is retired. However, one of the funniest moments between them was when ‘Blessed’ called DC runner-up for the ‘Daddest Man on the Planet’.
Holloway gave a new nickname to Cormier
Over the years, Holloway and Cormier had a lot of light-hearted back and forth with each other. According to the Hawaiian, Comier only contacts him for interviews and so he denied him the chance. While also claiming that Cormier is a partial analyst. However, Holloway stole the show during a press conference back in Nov 2021.
Cormier said, “They took my man DC… The number one contender in the ‘Daddest Man on the Planet’ because you’re looking at the ‘Daddest Man on the Planet’, right now.“
It will be interesting to watch the next saga unfold in this tale of friendship when Holloway meets Cormier at UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. The Korean Zombie. ‘Blessed’ is looking to book a win and march a title challenge in the dusk of his career and Cormier might be there with the live commentary.
