'I just Want To Outsmart Him': Dustin Poirier on How He Will Approach Conor McGregor This Time

Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor are set to headline UFC 257 on January 23. In the wake of that Dustin Poirier has thrown light on how he will approach Conor McGregor this time and what all has changed since they last met.

While all the speculations that were hovering over the status of the match are finally wiped off, the pre-match stage has now begun. The next two months are going to be very exciting for the fans all around, as the fighters will begin to interact with various media outfits to talk about the fight and about each other, before ultimately coming in close proximity to initiate a fuming or its complete opposite build-up.

The intense build-up was the highlight of their bout when the two met last time in 2014. However, on that occasion Conor McGregor seemingly won the psychological battle as his words made Dustin Poirier lose his composure.
Though it is a rematch and McGregor is 1-0 over Poirier, but the Diamond isn’t wary over what happened in the past, and has indicated that he will enter with a completely different mindset this time.

Dustin Poirier on How He Will Approach Conor McGregor This Time

Speaking to MMA junkie, Dustin Poirier threw light on the fact that so much has changed since their last fight. The Diamond conveyed that while emotions ran high on his part at UFC 178, which might as well proved to be the decisive factor, this time it is entirely going to business.

“At this point we’re both so much established, have so much more experience and just more mature fighters. I think you get a completely different fight here. I was very emotional in that first one, I wanted to hurt the guy, this time I just want to outsmart him, just want to beat him. That’s it this is business, this isn’t any ill will towards the guy.”

The Lafayette native reflected that with age he has attained the wisdom and rather than focusing on any bad-blood he now being a responsible family man gives more priority to the benefits that can reaped out from any in-ring encounter.

“When I was younger I used to fight with a lot of emotion. This isn’t the same thing for me, this isn’t about getting even for me. This isn’t like a revenge type of thing for me, this is about moving my career forward and putting my family in a better spot. It’s not about trying to get back a guy who got me. This is just, it’s business.”

So, with these statements it seems Dustin Poirier has a certain outlook for the match. But, at the same time, Conor McGregor is a leader of his own kind, therefore it would be interesting to witness what reaction he brings out from Dustin this time.
