Days After His $10,000,000 Fight Offer for Nate Diaz, Jake Paul Losses $1000 in Boxing Challenge Against UFC Star

Dustin Poirier, the former UFC interim lightweight champion, faced Justin Gaethje for an intriguing BMF championship last weekend. In this bout, ‘The Diamond’ was coming off a victory against Michael Chandler and so had strong support. However, the native of Louisiana was unable to overcome Gaethje. In the second round, ‘The Highlight’ unleashed a powerful kick to the temple, effectively ending Poirier’s battle. He was not, however, the only one who lost something that day. Former UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal recently disclosed that he dropped a significant amount of money following Poirier’s defeat.

Masvidal supported the former interim lightweight champion and placed a $100,000 wager on him. Unfortunately for Poirier, the battle did not go well, and for Masvidal, he lost his money.

Jorge Masvidal reveals losing bet on Dustin Poirier

Dustin Poirier has previously fought and beaten Justin Gaethje in their first meeting a few years ago. As a result, he was a betting favorite for the rematch at UFC 291.

Given that, Jorge Masvidal reportedly staked $100,000 for Poirier to win. Furthermore, as the first-ever UFC BMF title winner, Masvidal attended the fight to award the belt to the winner.

‘Gamebred’ later revealed his wager in a post-fight interview with TNT Sports. Masvidal said:

“I put a hundred thousand dollars on DP, on Dustin Poirier. Kids, I’m sorry. You gotta go to public school now.”

Perhaps this is why Masvidal appeared a little off-beat while presenting Gaethje with the BMF championship. Nonetheless, ‘The Diamond’ accepted the defeat like a true fighter. He also garnered appreciation from ex-WWE star Dwayne Johnson for the same reason.

Dwayne Johnson praises Dustin Poirier

Dustin Poirier seemed to be in high spirits despite his heartbreaking loss. He also spoke positively of himself during the post-fight news conference with the media, claiming that despite his defeat, he was content with his life.

Poirier’s behavior drew a lot of appreciation from the MMA world. Among them was Dwayne Johnson, an MMA enthusiast who took to his Twitter account to praise the former interim UFC champion.

In response to a video posted by MMA Junkie, Johnson expressed that he appreciated Poirier’s viewpoint and lavished him with compliments. ‘The Rock’ said:

“Love this perspective so much Life lessons we can pass on to our little ones. Whatever it is that you sign up for, make sure you absolutely love it because anything can happen ~ and it’s does. Love this dude. Massive respect brother @DustinPoirier.”
