Is Conor McGregor the Highest-Paid UFC Fighter?

Although the former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor isn’t active in UFC, he surely knows how to make headlines. ‘The Notorious’ recently made huge claims about breaking a prestigious UFC record. However, a veteran UFC fighter dismissed McGregor’s plan and accused him of not putting in the effort. McGregor, who is known for his trash-talking, frequently answers his detractors with a severe retort. In this case, though, it was his admirers who performed the job.

McGregor’s followers rallied in his defense and blasted the former UFC fighter for his remarks. They also brought up his previous defeat to YouTuber turned-professional boxer, Jake Paul.

Fans rally behind Conor McGregor

‘The Notorious’ recently took to his official Twitter account and claimed to break the highest KO wins record. It is currently held by Derrick Lewis and Matt Brown, with 13 knockout wins under their name.

Meanwhile, McGregor, out of his 10 UFC victories, has won 8 fights via knockout. Thus, the 34-year-old stated that he can break the record before completely retiring from UFC.

However, former UFC welterweight fighter Ben Askren didn’t like the idea. While replying to McGregor’s tweet, Askren said:

“Lol you don’t show up for work often enough.”

This tweet seemingly comes after McGregor is seen partying and enjoying events ahead of his UFC return against Michael Chandler, who, on the contrary, is religious training for the fight. However, many fans didn’t agree with Askern. Check out some reactions below:

One fan reminded Askren of his upset in his boxing debut against Jake Paul. He said, “Jake Paul KO’d you… let’s be serious here.”

Another fan took a dig at the former UFC star by reminding him of his career setbacks. He wrote, “says the man who literally got beat down and just said I quit and retired.

A fan, yet again, joked about his loss against Paul. He said, “You got put to sleep by a youtuber.”

One fan stated the possibility of McGregor breaking the record. He said, “If the UFC gives him 10 straight Court McGees to fight he could do it.”

When is McGregor fighting again?

Fans have been anticipating Conor McGregor’s big UFC comeback since he healed from the leg injury he sustained in his previous bout. The UFC already confirmed that he will face Michael Chandler later this year.

Both fighters have also completed the forthcoming season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter 31’ as coaches. However, no information on the date of their battle has been released.

Given this, many people doubt that the bout will take place. However, UFC president Dana White, as well as Chandler and McGregor, have agreed on the spectacle. As a result, it is unavoidable, but fans will have to wait for the official battle dates.

What are your thoughts on the fight? What do you guys think about Askren’s comment on McGregor?
