'No Excuses': Tony Ferguson gives a brief breakdown of his fight against Charles Oliveira at UFC 256

Following his thumping defeat at UFC 256 against Charles Oliveira, Tony Ferguson laid out his first comments about the fight.

Tony Ferguson, who was eager to get back in the ring and had intended to end the year in style, was in every sense picked apart by his Brazilian opponent on the night. The final scores presented by the judges (30-26, 30-26, 30-26) indicate that it was one-way traffic throughout the 15 minutes.

Since this was Tony’s second loss in succession, therefore, concerns about his future are at large. Some say he is past his prime; while there is speculation that he hasn’t recovered from the Gaethje beatdown. Parallelly, many have already tagged him as finished. However, his fans and followers are terming these opinions as travesty as not long ago El Cucuy was on a 12-match undefeated streak and was the interim champion. In the wake of these polarising views, Tony Ferguson has come out and somewhat expressed what he thinks lies ahead.

On Tuesday, Tony Ferguson took to Instagram and wrote some words about his culminated fight. In the post, Tony highlighted that he has no excuses for what ultimately transpired. He stated that he “welcomed the attack” of Charles Oliveira and did not defend at times. He also mentioned that after the match he straightaway went sparring as after enduring the successful armbar attempt of Do Bronx, blood circulation in his arm was needed. But, clarified that no lasting damage occurred to his arm.

Lastly, Ferguson reflected on the year and conveyed that this year he learned a lot about himself, and even though results haven’t been ideal lately, yet he has specified that he will continue to seek greatness and is far from being retired.
