WATCH: Fans chanting ‘F**k you Hamilton’ below the podium yesterday
Lewis Hamilton produced one of the finest displays of overtaking to win the Italian GP at Ferrari’s home turf.
After an enthralling qualifying on Saturday, with the two Ferrari drivers getting a front row spot, you would have expected a Ferrari celebration on the podium after the completion of the race. However, Mercedes largely took over the podium, with Hamilton winning the Italian GP and Bottas claiming the 3rd spot on the podium.
The Vettel-Hamilton coming together on lap 1 was a massive setback for Ferrari and the German driver, as they were then playing catch up all along.
Mercedes’ strategy to use Bottas to hold up Kimi worked wonderfully well, as Kimi’s tyres suffered massively and he couldn’t really compete with Hamilton during the dying stages of the race.
Hamilton was obviously ecstatic after the win, thrilled to bits about beating Ferrari on their home turf, despite they having the superior package.
He was also quick to address the British and Hamilton fans in the crowd, those who stood by him all through the weekend despite the negativity(the Ferrari faithful) all around them.
Now, the Tifosi were booing Hamilton and singing ‘F**k you Hamilton’ in unison just below the podium.
While, it could be accounted for as disrespectful behaviour, you need to understand that rival drivers are bound to receive such a reception whilst ‘driving away from home(or in a rival territory).
Tifosi booing and jeering Bottas as well as Hamilton on the podium. It’s just Ferrari backing, not specifically anti-Hamilton. Sports events have such atmosphere – Milan fans jeered loudly whenever Roma had the ball on Friday night #F1 #ItalianGP
