Gareth Bale’s Real Madrid future has been debated about quite a lot this season as the Welsh International has been starved of game time because of injury.
However, when the big occasion presents itself, the big players step up and how!
After a lot of speculation, Gareth Bale didn’t actually start the Champions League final, as both Isco and Benzema were preferred to him, despite his rich vein of form in the last few games.
Bale was sent on for Isco in the 2nd half, minutes after Mane had equalised for Liverpool.
The game seemed to get a little stretched as Liverpool had rediscovered their mojo after that shock goalkeeping error from Loris Karius.
Bale came on and nonchalantly deposited an overhead kick into the Liverpool net to give Real Madrid the lead.
The goal was a superlative one, primarily because of his technique but also because of the occasion in which Bale was able to come up with that brilliance.

Indeed, this goal could be the real difference.

Marcelo had put in a wonderful cross into the box, an inviting one, and it was in the perfect place for Bale to attempt that audacious overhead kick.
He met the ball absolutely sweetly and gave Real Madrid a much deserved lead in the Champions league final.
If Real Madrid manage to hold onto this lead, they will become the first ever club to win the Champions league 3 times in a row.
