Wayne Rooney arrested in US: Former England international and MLS star Wayne Rooney was arrested in US in December.

The former England international and DC United footballer Wayne Rooney was arrested on December 16 in Virginia, US. He was charged with public intoxication and swearing.

A spokesman in Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said that Rooney was taken into custody “on a charge of public intoxication stemming from an arrest by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police.”

However, Rooney was later released on “personal recognizance bond.”

A document in the Loudoun County District Court shows that Rooney paid a $25 fine and $91 costs on January 4. He was charged with ‘Class 4’ misdemeanour, which accounts for a fine of $250.

Wayne Rooney arrested in US:

Rooney was arrested after he returned from a trip to Saudi Arabia, where he attended the opening race of Formula E season near Riyadh.

Earlier, a two year driving ban was imposed on Rooney in 2017 after he was found to be almost three times the legal limit in Cheshire.

Wayne Rooney joined MLS side DC United last year in the summer transfer window from Everton, and has been influential in their run to the play-offs.

DC United, the current football club of Wayne Rooney, has further issued a statement on Wayne Rooney’s arrest. They have stated that the club will deal with the situation internally.

“We are aware of news reports indicating that Wayne Rooney was arrested in December,” the statement read.

“We understand the media’s interest in this matter but we believe this is a private matter for Wayne that DC United will handle internally. We have no further comment on this situation.”
