During the brand split in 2016, the WWE renamed some of their championships after the RAW and SmackDown brand. However, doing so resulted in awkward situations when the champion holding brand specific titles was drafted. Their remedy of simply swapping the title with its opposite brand equivalent was severely criticized by fans. Apart from the laziness, this resulted in the wrestler adding another title to their accolades without actually winning it. However, it appears that this will soon no longer be an issue.
According to a new report, WWE are planning to do away with brand specific titles. Titles, with RAW and SmackDown in their names, will be rebranded with new names. If true, the tag titles and women championships will soon undergo changes.
New WWE title along the way and brand specific titles to be renamed?
Xero News has reported that RAW and SmackDown will soon receive new tag titles. The RAW tag titles will be called the World Tag Titles and the SmackDown tag titles will be dubbed the WWE Tag Titles. The Women’s Championships on both brands will also get a name change. However, there is no word on what their new names will be.
This is being done, so the titles can change brands and not be stuck on either show.
They have also reported that a new WWE title is currently being pitched and is expected soon. The report also adds that while it is possible that this could change in the future, these are the current plans as of now.
Another piece of information that they’ve shared is the WWE doing away with colored titles. However, this is unconfirmed as of now.
