Justin Bieber wanted to wrestle for WWE but got turned down

Justin Bieber wanted to wrestle for WWE but got turned down. The singer wanted to participate in a six man tag team match at SummerSlam 2014.

The WWE rose to fame in the 80’s on the back of their collaboration with mainstream stars. Doing so, allowed them more eyes on their product. This led to a rise in their audience as they marched on to become the most succesfull wrestling promotion in the world.

Paul Wight, who was known as Big Show in the WWE, told Chris Jericho on his Talk Is Jericho podcast, said that the singer was looking forward to being in a WWE ring but a WWE official shot the idea down.

“Years ago I had worked out for one of the SummerSlams in L.A… I had worked out with a very good friend who was working with Scooter Braun (Bieber’s manager) and Justin Bieber. It was gonna be John Cena, The Big Show, and Justin Bieber versus The Wyatts at SummerSlam. This deal was really… Bieber was on board, he was excited, he wanted to work out with John and I. This was a really, really big deal. This is when that app first came out, all that other cr*p, you know, and then one of the people that is making decisions said, ‘I just don’t see how Justin Bieber is going to relate to our audience.’ It’s like… does anyone not see the amount of eyes that Justin Bieber would bring to that match?”

Wight added that WWE offered to promote the singer but had no interest in having him wrestle.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
