Vince McMahon reveals his first impression of Stone Cold Steve Austin

Vince McMahon reveals his first impression of Stone Cold Steve Austin. Together, the two would go on to change the landscape of wrestling forever.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Vince McMahon is arguably wrestling’s greatest feud ever. The WWE Chairman was the most despised villain of the Attitude Era and Stone Cold the most adored hero on the WWE roster. In Austin’s own words, the two were tailor made for each other. However, that wasn’t Vince’s first thoughts of the Texas Rattlesnake.

The WWE Chairman believed that Stone Cold was wasting his time. Steve Austin debuted in the WWE as the Ringmaster and Vince was far from impressed with him. Speaking on the recent A&E biography of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Vince had this say to about, possibly, wrestling’s biggest babyface ever:

“My initial impressions of him was, ‘He’s wasting my time.’ (smiles)”

Vince McMahon also spoke about his Mr. McMahon character. While many, including Bruce Prichard, have said that the character was very close to his real life persona, McMahon denied being similar to his onscreen portrayal in any way.

“Mr. McMahon is no way in the world like me – we’ll start with that. But he’s arrogant, he’s rich, can treat people like crap.”

Coming back to Steve Austin, the Texas Rattlesnake was floundering in the WWE before transitioning to the Stone Cold character. Stone Cold disected why his feud with Vince worked so well, summarising that many lived vicariously through him beating up his boss for a living.

“Vince and I were tailor-made for each other to work together. Vince was unique because he was the owner, and now he’s feuding with me, it’s a real storyline. All of a sudden, it wasn’t just about wrestling – it was about this guy (Austin) who’s an employee, against his boss. And everybody is an employee who has a boss and a lot of times the employee has not liked what the boss has done or said to him.”

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
