Possible reason why Mickie James was released by WWE

Possible reason why Mickie James was released by WWE. The former Women’s Champion was among nine other wrestlers who were recently let go.

Veteran performer Mickie James was recently released by the WWE. The 41-year old has had a legendary career with the promotion and when all is said and done she will more than certainly be inducted in the Hall of Fame. Off late however, she wasn’t used a lot by the WWE and found herself among those who lost their jobs on April 15th.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, James had tried to be a part of the announce team. However, that didn’t work very well for her. In the same interview, Meltzer suggested that she was possibly released due to her age.

Possible reason why Mickie James was released by WWE

“Wrestling is a cosmetic business, perhaps less now than in the past in some cases and especially for women, but it still partially is. Her not being used and her age made her a prime target to be cut. She did get tryouts to be a television announcer but that didn’t go anywhere.”

“She has the advantage of being in great shape and looking young, although having so many years of television, when it comes to outside WWE, she’d have had chances elsewhere under any circumstance.”

Mickie James is a 5-time WWE Women’s Champion. She has also won the Divas Championship once. James left the WWE back in 2010 and went to perform  with TNA where she won the Knockout’s Championship 3-times. She returned to the WWE back in 2016.

Injuries kept her away from TV. However, even after being cleared to compete , WWE chose not to use her frequently. Her last prominent appearance in the ring was during the Women’s Royal Rumble earlier this year.

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
