Why Cody Rhodes left AEW

Cody Rhodes made his triumphant return to WWE at WrestleMania 38 by defeating The Architect, Seth Rollins. While their rivalry continued, Rhodes had a mishap in the weight room, tearing his pectoral muscle in the lead-up to their match at Hell in a Cell. While fans speculated that The American Nightmare was not going to make it to the show, he surprised the WWE Universe by showing up and competing. Rhodes even managed to pick up the win with his debilitating condition.

The former AEW World Champion not only raised eyebrows at the Hell in a Cell PPV but also earned the respect of the fans. However, the severity of his injury has kept him away from the ring to this day.

With Rhodes reportedly healing up well, his supposed return in 2023 has been stirring curiosity among the WWE Universe. Rhodes made a rare appearance on Monday Night Raw’s “Best of” edition and spoke volumes about his future plans in wrestling. Rhodes also alluded to doing something he’s never done before.

Cody Rhodes may face Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 39 in a non-title match

WWE is privy to the hype about Cody Rhodes’ possible return. Most fans believe that Rhodes has paid his dues over the years and deserves to hold the WWE Championship. Interestingly, not even his father, the legendary, American Dream Dusty Rhodes has ever had the chance to possess the highest prize in WWE. So, if Cody were to win the title, he would be the first Rhodes to ever do it.

However, Slice Wrestling reported that WWE may not put the title on him this early just because that is what the fans want.

According to the report, Cody is in for the long haul with WWE and the company has a long-term plan with him. WWE is reportedly working on other bigger WrestleMania plans and so, there is a high chance that Rhodes will reignite his rivalry with Seth Rollins in a non-title match.

A source told Slice Wrestling that 2023 will be a big year for Cody Rhodes and that the company is trying to push Rhodes up to the levels of Hulk Hogan and John Cena. Triple H reportedly believes adding more fuel to the rivalry between Rhodes and Rollins is best for business due to their great chemistry.

Cody Rhodes wants to bring back the Winged Eagle Championship title

Through the years, WWE has introduced new iconic Championship titles such as WWE spinner Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, and more. However, the popular Eagle Winged Championship from the late 80s has been forgotten.

Speaking on the After The Bell podcast with Corey Graves, The American Nightmare hinted at bringing the Eagle Winged Championship back. The title was first introduced by Hulk Hogan in 1988.

The Championship was held by top mainstay names such as Bret Hart, Diesel, The Ultimate Warrior, Shawn Micheals, and more.

During the interview, Rhodes stated that he would consider bringing back the old design if he ever became the WWE Undisputed Champion. His statement also led the fans to speculate if he will indeed face Roman Reigns and dethrone the Tribal Chief.

“Hypothetically, it would be something to do that, achieve the ultimate industry dream, being the best of the best ever, in terms of that moment in time, and then to perhaps give it a fresh coat of paint with the winged eagle, the redundantly named title we are discussing. That would just be something. That’s all I can really say.”
