Former Indian Crickter turned member of Parliament Gautam Gambhir has heaped praises for MS Dhoni for his decision to join his Parachute regiment of the territorial Army.

Gambhir’s comments come after the Lieutenant Colonel (honorary) in the Parachute regiment- MS Dhoni, got an affirmation nod from the Army chief to commence with his training, where he will be proceeding to serve with his battalion ( 106 TA Battalion (Para)) from July 31- August 15, 2019.

The unit which the 38-year-old would be serving is in the Kashmir Valley as part of the Victor force.

Gambhir terms Dhoni’s army stint as a ‘fantastic’ move

Gambhir hailed MS Dhoni’s decision to serve the Indian Army saying that the former India captain’s move would motivate the youths of the country to join the armed forces.

Terming the 38-year-old’s move as ‘fantastic’, he further opined that this decision of his proves how dedicated he is towards his nation.

“Dhoni’s decision to join the army is a fantastic move. I have said many a times that Dhoni needs to do spend time with the Indian Army if he really wishes to wear the uniform and now by deciding to really serve the army he has proved his dedication,” Gambhir told ABP News.

“This move from Dhoni will motivate thousands of youngsters to join the Indian Army,” Gambhir added.

It is worth mentioning that the veteran wicket-keeper batsman had decided to opt himself out of the upcoming Indian team’s tour of West Indies for the limited-overs series, to serve his regiment as a mandate.

Although Dhoni holds an honorary post (Lieutenant Colonel) in the Parachute regiment, he is mandated to spend at least two months with his unit in a year.

This is the same request that the former India captain had put in before his chief, post the 2019 World Cup- to serve his unit for two months- the same which has been approved, and he will be serving his unit in Jammu and Kashmir.
