Shreyas Iyer discloses his preferred batting position during West Indies series

Iyer discloses his preferred batting position: The Indian batsman was recently vocal about several aspects including his batting number.

Before being recalled into India’s limited-over squads, batsman Shreyas Iyer had opened up on learning from captain Virat Kohli, wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni and vice-captain Rohit Sharma.

After making his comeback, Iyer is now playing alongside Kohli and Sharma in the same ODI XI. With the first match getting washed out due to rain, Iyer realizes that he has a couple of opportunities. Speaking with the reporters during the pre-match press conference, Iyer hoped of the second match not getting affected by rain.

“It’s going to be another two opportunities for me to make the best use of it. Hopefully this also doesn’t rain off. We are hardly getting any net practice. I am eager to go out there and carry forward the momentum which I got from my India A matches. Looking forward to a good series finish,” Iyer was quoted as saying.

Iyer discloses his preferred batting position

In five ODI innings so far, Iyer has batted at No. 3 and No. 5 thrice and twice respectively. In the ongoing series, Iyer is expected to bat in the middle order (at No. 4 or 5). Being asked about his preferred batting position, Iyer mentioned that he is not thinking much about the position and is rather looking to be flexible to bat at any number.

“We have got no idea. It’s totally the management’s decision. I can’t go and say that I want to bat at number four and they would put me in that spot. It’s not like that.

“Personally, I am not thinking about batting only at No.4. I want to be someone who is very flexible batting at any number or if you go into any situation you should be able to grab that opportunity and make the best use of it,” Iyer said.

In the ongoing second ODI between West Indies and India at Port of Spain, Iyer is expected to bat at No. 5.
