WATCH: Eoin Morgan’s heroic innings aids Middlesex in sealing biggest run-chase in T20 Blast
Eoin Morgan’s heroic innings aids Middlesex: The senior batsman stood tall to seal a 227-run target in 17 overs in Taunton.
During the South Group match of the ongoing Vitality T20 Blast between Somerset and Middlesex in Taunton, veteran Middlesex batsman Eoin Morgan scored his 31st T20 half-century to seal the biggest run-chase in the history of T20 Blast.
Coming in to bat at No. 5 in the ninth over in a 227-run chase, Morgan made the best of the quickfire start provided by the top-order. The southpaw stitched an unbeaten match-winning 99-run partnership for the fifth wicket alongside George Scott in less than seven overs.
Absolutely brutal with the bat in hand, Morgan punished the opposition bowlers at will leaving them with no option than to succumb under pressure. The 33-year old batsman sealing the chase in a mere 17 overs further speak highly about his prowess yesterday.
Having scored 83* (29) with the help of five fours and eight sixes, Morgan’s innings saw the visitors bettering their Net Run Rate as well. What gave Middlesex a head-start was a 67-run opening stand (off 23 balls) between Dawid Malan (41) and Paul Sterling (25).
After Somerset captain Tom Abell won the toss and chose to bat, his maiden T20 century saw the hosts scoring 226/5 in 20 overs. Coming in to bat at No. 4 in the sixth over, Abell ended up scoring 101* (47) with the help of 13 fours and three sixes.
