Gilbert Burns wants Conor McGregor removed from UFC rankings. The Irishman is still ranked despite announcing his retirement over two weeks ago.
Conor McGregor pulled the curtains on his career when he announced his retirement from MMA after UFC 250. Many have doubted the legitimacy of the claim considering this is the third time he’s made a similar announcement in 4 years. However, all signs point towards the retirement being genuine,

Although, the retirement is yet to be reflected on the UFC rankings. Which is very different from how the UFC dealt with Henry Cejudo’s retirement. The Bantamweight champion announced his retirement and immediately after his successful title defense against Dominick Cruz at UFC 249.
There were some who believed that the retirement was a negotiation tactic. However, the UFC was swift in removing Cejudo from the rankings and made the Bantamweight title vacant. Cejudo officially announced his retirement soon after.

The manner in which the UFC dealt with Henry Cejudo’s retirement has not been emulated with Conor McGregor. Despite the retirement being announced more than a fortnight ago, he is still present in the top 5 of the lightweight rankings.
Gilbert Burns pointed to this on his social media when he wrote: “Cejudo retired they took him out of the rankings very quickly let’s do it with Connor as well! 🤔🤔🤔”

This sparked a debate among his followers, some of whom even joked that Ali Abdelaziz was behind the tweet.
