“Dustin Poirier is The Second Best Lightweight in The World”- Daniel Cormier

After his emotional breakdown post UFC 242, “The Diamond” Dustin Poirier with his recent professional display of resilience and dominance has made a resounding comeback in 2020.

UFC veteran and former heavyweight champion Daniel Cormie feels that Dustin Poirier is the second best lightweight in the world. Cormier believes that he is only behind the reigning champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Poirier marked a return to the ring with a huge win over Dan Hooker. The match, seen as a fight of the year contender by many, clearly impressed Cormier.

Dustin Poirier Up in The Popularity Charts

Dustin Poirier’s recent victory over Dan Hooker, sees him soar through the popularity charts. His paycheck for the event was also more than any other fighter that night. The statistics revealed by UFC tells Dustin Poirier took home a grand sum of $300,000. Which was $1,20,000 more than the second highest Mike Perry.

UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib will defend his title against Justin Gaethje. While no dates are yet confirmed, it is believed that the showdown will take place in September.

Khabib was originally scheduled to face Tony Ferguson. However, Khabib’s inability to leave Russia due to restricted air travel saw Ferguson compete against Gaethje for the interim UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC 249.

Gaethje handed Ferguson his first defeat in 8 years to earn a title match against Khabib.

Cormier himself will be taking part in a title match in the main event of UFC 252. He will be facing the UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic as the pair prepare for the finale of their epic trilogy. Regardless of the result, Cormier has already expressed his desire to retire after the match.
