UFC Fight Island 7: Calvin Kattar's Coach Believes Fight With Max Holloway Would Have Title Implications

UFC Fight Island 7: Calvin Kattar’s coach Tyson Chartier is confident that his coachee will perform to his full potential against Max Holloway and pave the path for a potential title shot.

The 2021 MMA action is set to go underway this week with the UFC Fight Island 7. The match card embedded with the event consists of 12 fights and Max Holloway Vs. Calvin Kattar is been placed as the main event. The event foresees new opportunities for the fighters in concern and might turn out to be the breakthrough for the main event protagonist Calvin Kattar.

While the limelight is on Max Holloway, as the booking is perceived as his step towards a comeback in the title scene, however, Kattar has an objective of his own and has already conveyed that he is not the fighter who can be overlooked. Calvin Kattar’s Coach Believes Fight With Max Holloway Can have Title Implications

Throwing light on the same, Calvin Kattar’s coach Tyson Chartier recently spoke about the stakes of the match in a recent interview with MMASucka.

“I don’t see how you can beat Max Holloway and not get a title fight,” Chartier said. “There was conversation about a [Volkanovski vs. Holloway] trilogy, so I can’t imagine a win over [Kattar] doesn’t get Max a rematch. By definition, that would make it a contender fight. There would have to be some serious, serious politics in play for us to beat Max and not get a title shot.”

Knowing that this match is his trainee’s biggest challenge up until now, Chartier revealed the approach with which Calvin Kattar would enter the ring on Jan 16.

“The general thing is, is just not letting [Holloway] capitalize on what he’s able to do to everybody. He bullies everybody around the cage with the volume, he takes people down, he kind of wears you out and just stays in your face and overwhelms you. We’re not going to let him do that to us.”

‘We have an extreme power advantage’

Acknowledging the fact that it will be a daunting task to get the better of the blessed, Tyson lays out what advantage Kattar has over Holloway.

“He’s also a fighter,” Chartier said. “If you get in his face, he’ll get in your face, too. The last thing Max wants to do is fight in the center of the cage in a phone booth, because we have an extreme power advantage, and we’ll win that fight every time.”

He further said, “Calvin has shown he’s one of the hardest-hitting featherweights in the UFC. Max, he’s never shown he’s got that one-punch power; he’s kind of a volume guy. In a fight-round fight where the power puncher has extreme cardio and a high fight IQ, if you carry that power into the fifth round, the whole fight could end at any time. But [Holloway] is really going to look to outpoint them.”

Tyson Chartier concluded the topic by giving his ultimate prediction of the fight

“Max is so freaking tough that I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes five rounds, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if we get a second or third-round win,” Chartier said. “He struggled a little bit with Poirier’s power. I’ve gotta think that [Kattar’s] power is just as good as Poirier’s. I’ll say a second or third round finish, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if we win a decision.”
