What does this mean for the Vikings?
Most likely, the situation will be resolved sooner rather than later. Cook will either get a long term extension or he’ll return to practice and play out the last year of his rookie contract.
If he does get the extension he deserves, he is expected to be become one of the highest paid RBs in the league. Cook, 25, rushed for 1,135 yards in 2019 and was the driving force on the Vikings offense.
Positive Signs in Minnesota
It was reported earlier in the offseason that Cook would hold out of training camp in the absence of an extension. However, it is now clear he’ll practice and play this year regardless of the contract situation.
Cook told reporters that he is “full go” at training camp. He also added that he isn’t worried about the negotiations and that he’s keen on remaining in Minnesota.
Vikings staff have reiterated his claims. They say that has has come into camp with a positive attitude and is keeping morale high. Head coach Mike Zimmer has also said that Cook will be a team captain this season.
