‘She called me a F**king N-Word’: Marcus Smart reveals traumatic racial experience with Celtics fan
Marcus Smart opens up about the time he had a woman yell racial slurs at him when he was in Boston, traumatising him.
With the NBA Bubble coming to an end the past week as the Los Angeles Lakers won their 17th championship in franchise history, it is safe to say the ‘Bubble experiment’ was a success.
An aspect that was missed during the players’ time in the Bubble was their interactions with fans in the stands or in the front row seats. Most times, these interactions are harmless and actually produce a sweet moment between the fan and the player on the court.
However, there is a history of certain fans either in the stands or in the city who are known to chuck racial slurs at NBA players out of spite or frustration. Sadly, Boston Celtic’s Marcus Smart was a victim to this.
Marcus Smart shares his story on him dealing with racial profanities
Boston fans have a bad repertoire of being awfully racist and insensitive towards any athlete who is not of Caucasian decent.
Marcus Smart talks about how, the Celtics had just won a regular season game at TD Garden, he was planning on heading home. As he was pulling out of the parking lot, he sees a white woman with her 5 year old son jaywalking.
Smart said in his interview with the Player’s Tribune, “I had my windows rolled down and realized something bad was about to happen, so I yelled to her politely that she needed to hurry so they do not get hurt.”
In response to this, the woman lashed out at Smart and called him a, “f—cking n-word” in front of everyone on the street.
“I wasn’t a person to this woman. I was a form of entertainment. Nothing more.”

Smart details that he actually saw the woman wear an Isaiah Thomas Celtics jersey and thought she would be calm and collected upon seeing Smart, but was sadly mistaken.
