After securing a flawless victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, Khabib Nurmagomedov decided to hung up his gloves, but during the post-match farewell speech he asked UFC a one last promotion. Khabib, who in his 8-year long UFC career rose through the ranks to reach the No.2 spot in the Pond-For-Pound rankings desires to go out on a high, thus wanted UFC to elevate his name to the top.

It turns out, UFC seemingly did considered his demand, as Tuesday’s update saw Khabib Nurmagomedov overtake Jon Jones in the rankings to become the new P4P No.1 in MMA’s biggest brand.

Debate Over Becoming No.1

With an unprecedented, unheard record of 29-0, the Eagle is certainly counted among the greats of the game, however, with 4 title wins in comparison to Jones’ 15, there is a debate regarding which parameter has been taken into account in order to make the change in the rankings.

Jon Jones, who has been dethroned from the No.1 spot has presented several arguments during the last couple of days, which suggests he is not amused by Khabib’s demand, which has apparently led to this modification in rankings.
