George Linde injury update: South African all-rounder runs off the ground after injuring finger in Rawalpindi Test

George Linde injury: The South African all-rounder had to run off the ground after getting hurt by a hard-hit from the opposition captain.

During the first day of the second Test of the ongoing South Africa’s tour of Pakistan in Rawalpindi, South Africa were a player short in the first session itself after all-rounder George Linde ran off the ground after getting injured.

It all happened on the penultimate delivery of the 23rd over when Pakistan captain Babar Azam stepped down the track to smash a Linde delivery back at him.

Linde, who didn’t have much time to sway away from the ball, was seen receiving a brutal hit on his left hand whilst stopping the ball.

In significant discomfort, the -year old player was witnessed running back to the pavilion after informing South Africa captain Quinton de Kock. It was South Africa opening batsman Dean Elgar who not only completed Linde’s over but bowled another over from the same end.

Linde, who hasn’t yet returned to the field, has left the venue to undergo an X-ray. Having bowled a total of 17 deliveries on juts the first day of a Test match so far, the visitors will be hoping to get more out of Linde as the match progresses.

UPDATE:*

After Azam won the toss and elected to bat, Pakistan lost their top three in the first session as South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj and fast bowler Anrich Nortje picked two and one wicket respectively.

Contrary to the murmurs of Pakistan playing with three specialist fast bowler today, the home team has fielded an unchanged XI which means that left-arm spinner Nauman Ali gets to play his second match. South Africa, on the other hand, have included Wiaan Mulder in place of Lungi Ngidi.
