“Russell Westbrook is opening a middle and high school in Los Angeles”: Wizards star releases statement regarding his latest philanthropic venture in the field of education

Russell Westbrook is the latest NBA star to contribute to educational philanthropy. His Why Not? Foundation will be opening a school in LA.

NBA players like David Robinson and LeBron James, among others, have helped in partnering with local communities for school education. James’s ‘I Promise’ school in Akron Ohio is funded in part by annual contributions from a trust fund that he’s set up.

The Brody is often considered one of the most beloved players in the NBA. Despite his polarizing style of play and occasional hero-ball antics, he’s always recognized for his insane energy levels. A Westbrook on fire is still one of the NBA’s best players.

Westbrook has previously donated digital devices for underprivileged students in the city of Houston. This adds another feather to his cap in terms of community empowerment and educational philanthropy.

Russell Westbrook releases statement on his new schools

Russ released the following statement through his Foundation today regarding the new school they’re opening:

“I’ve realized through the work with my [Why Not? Foundation] how often schools in underserved communities lack the resources and funding needed to support their students.”

“I not only want to inspire and empower these students but I want to help provide the essential and necessary resources to set them up for success beyond the classroom.”

“The Russell Westbrook Why Not? Academy will deliver world-class education to South Los Angeles youth grades 6 through 12 to develop academic achievers, athletes and active citizens committed to social change.”

“Creating and supporting educational opportunities for underserved youth has always been a passion of mine. It’s so important that every child has access to a good education regardless of their socioeconomic background.”

Westbrook recently participated in a Zoom call with kids who are enrolled in the schools and their parents. His wife Nina and parents Shannon and Russell participated in a recent food-pantry drive and donated the NBA star’s signature sneakers to students.

Westbrook will be a member of the school’s board along with Nina and long-time business partner Donnell Beverly. T
